Letting Go
Experiences, whether good or bad, both help us to gain wisdom. Most often, we have an experience and it goes dormant in our brain until we need to recall it. Think of it like taking a test for example. You study or perhaps rely on recalling what you can from class and think about information learned based on the questions. Life works the same way, only you don't have to worry about the grade. Our life is based on the choices we make because of the experiences we've had.
Troubles arise when our past experiences dictate our choices for us. Memories/experiences help us to make good decisions, but sometimes they haunt us and cause us to develop harmful habits or create mental limitations. These choices become centered around those things and it puts us in a box. Many of our struggles have to do with us not being able to control our memories instead of them controlling us. Regardless of the reason for your struggles, I want to help you achieve a sense of peace through letting go.
First I want you to understand that letting go does not mean forgetting.
It doesn't mean forgetting deceased loved ones, or trying to force memories out of your mind. What letting go means is being able to accept memories and being at peace with them. In fact, you can go as far as to say letting go means using the memories that once caused us turmoil to help us gain strength. Allow those memories, those experiences to be a part of our life. Search for another viewpoint and find the new doors.
Second, BREATHE!!! I mean it. Find a spot that has meaning to you and beauty.
I like to hike into the woods, or sit on the beach. Take a moment to just focus on your breath and become aware of your senses. Many times when we have trouble letting go, we become detached from ourselves. Our senses become dull and as a result we lose our awareness. Take the time to clear your mind. Notice if you start to get stuck on something and slowly bring yourself back to just focusing on your breath and all the senses. Take your mind and body into the present moment. Establishing a reconnection of the body and mind allows you to once again experience life to the fullest.
Third, it's important to establish a method of pulling through when negative emotions hit. In working through reconnection, your mind and body think about what brings you inner peace. This thought or thoughts will become very helpful in times where you find yourself under stress. What is key is when these thoughts become stronger and stronger, you will be able to move through stressful times as a experience. Your mindset and thoughts are controllable. Yes, you may have a negative thought, but you can take that thought and choose to entertain it or you can choose to dabble in possibilities offering you growth in the direction you want to go.
Getting It Together
Once we are able to let go, we can start working at what we want. It is very difficult and even sometimes harmful to not let go and try to get things together. It's basically like building a house on a bad foundation. Nasty weather and time alone will cause more deterioration than a house with a good foundation. Letting go allows us to have a very solid foundation to work on creating a much more emotionally stable future.
First create something that shows everything you want. It can be a list in a journal, or magazine clippings placed on a board, it could be writing a song. Whatever works for you. There are endless ways to put together something that represents what you want in life. It's important that whatever you create is something that will stick strongly in your mind. Something that you can always remind yourself of as you make decisions in life.
Second, keep visualizing what you want. Visualization can be a very powerful thing. Ever since I was about 16 years old I knew I wanted to live in Hawaii.
I didn't have any idea how I would get here or what I would do. In 2012, I was on a plane to Maui, Hawaii and my stuff on a boat. I just always visualized myself here. Over time I developed more detailed visualizations. Now that I am here, I think back to my visualizations and they are so close if not identical to what I kept in my mind. Visualization is also something that can help you in many aspects of life like interviews, athletic engagements, the creation of a business, I think that everything can be helped by positive visualization.
Third, it's important to remember that thoughts can manifest your future. If something doesn't go the way you planned, which is inevitable in life, remember that there's two ways to approach the circumstance. One is you see it as a negative occurrence. The other choice is to see the occurrence as a new opportunity. In my experience, successful people take something negative and establish it as a positive, by utilizing the new doors it unlocks. Visualization can be harmful if you think in a negative fashion, so it's important to think positive. Visualization is very powerful, you manifest what you put out there.
Staying On Track
Staying on track is about continually reminding ourselves of our goals and using self-inspiration. This is something we can do whenever we feel ourselves straying towards something that brings negative energy with it. Below are some examples of phrases you can say to yourself, write on a mirror, or in a journal.
"I have no limitations, I am perfect, I can do whatever I put my mind to."
"I believe..."
"I am worth it."
It may take time to get where you want to go, but remember that a dream can manifest in different ways. Allow your dreams to take on different perspectives. Believe in yourself and you will get there.
